Bentley teases new SUV with cryptic desert-themed film

Let’s be honest: this video is mostly sand.

For those who are anticipating Bentley’s upcoming SUV as much as we are, though, any information is good information.

The British brand’s latest SUV teaser was just released, and it displays the new model’s signature grill shape, bold rear end, and sloping back window over a cryptic desert background. At times, you can even see the familiar quad-headlight design from the Continental, so rest assured that this mysterious people-carrier is in fact a Bentley.

The ad’s caption reads, “In the eyes of Bentley, the SUV is not just supremely capable in any environment, it is also supremely comfortable – and with new vistas on the world, you will see through new eyes.”

The crossover will reportedly ride on Volkswagen Groups’ MLB EVO platform, which underpins the Porsche Macan and Audi A8, and is expected to equip a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 and a 6.0-liter W12.

Bentley hasn’t released performance specs for the SUV yet, but the V8 has produced anywhere from 500 horsepower on the Continental GT V8 to an enormous 572 hp on the race-inspired GT3-R. The larger W12 engine is capable of well over 600 ponies, as the 6.0-liter produces a whopping 626 horsepower on the aptly named Continental GT Speed.

Both engines are mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission, and a rumored plug-in hybrid variant is expected to arrive sometime in 2017.

The big Bentley will arrive in dealerships next year and is designed “to take luxury to new heights and change how you see the SUV.” It was recently spied testing on the world-famous Nurburgring.

2022 Mercedes-Benz EQB first drive review: An EV better than its gas sibling
Front three quarter view of the 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQB.

Mercedes-Benz aims to go all-electric in at least some markets by 2030 but to do that it will need to launch electric equivalents of each of its many gasoline-powered models. The 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQB fits that description to the letter.

Where the EQS sedan aims to fill a similar role to the S-Class without directly copying it, the EQB is literally an electric version of an existing Mercedes crossover SUV — the GLB-Class. It uses the same body shell as the GLB, even retaining that model’s optional third-row seats.

2022 Rivian R1S first drive review: An EV SUV fit for an expedition or a drag race
The front three-quarter view of a 2022 Rivian against a rocky backdrop.

Rivian beat the likes of Ford, General Motors, and Tesla to market with an electric pickup truck, but now it’s time for act two.

The 2022 Rivian R1S shares most of its DNA with the Rivian R1T pickup released late last year, but in place of a bed, it has a three-row cabin with seating for seven. It retains the R1T’s distinctive styling, impressive off-road capability, and improbable acceleration, but in a package for drivers who need to carry people instead of stuff.

Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class takes a subtle approach to tech
2023 mercedes benz glc class preview

Mercedes-Benz isn’t afraid of bold design, but not every luxury car shopper wants a vehicle that looks like a spaceship. Some Mercedes models are meant to be trendsetters, but the GLC-Class SUV is aimed at people who don’t need to be early adopters.

The GLC is a small SUV of the type that’s become the default for many buyers. So while the redesigned 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class gets notable features like a redesigned infotainment system, “transparent hood” camera system, and mild-hybrid powertrain, it’s all packaged in a way that looks familiar.
