The Yule log has been hauled into the digital age by a group of artists from California who’ve lovingly curated a bunch of ultra-short log-themed animations for a little bit of festive fun.
While Yule Log 2.0 may not involve a real fire to stave off the cold, the originality and artistic flair showcased in this online collection of beautifully crafted shorts should ensure both body and soul are left suitably warmed.
And don’t worry should one animation fail to light your fire: The website’s looped presentation means another will be along in just a few seconds.
The site, created by New York artist Daniel Savage and curated by the creative team Oddfellows, comprises 70 films created by more than 80 illustrators, animators, directors, and creative coders, with most pieces running for between 10 and 30 seconds.
The soundtrack is the same for each piece — a quietly crackling fire and the occasional tinkle of Christmas bells. The themes, ideas, and styles, however, vary enormously.
The titles alone should be enough to tempt you into hitting the link, among them LogOnLogOut, YuleDogs, Marshmallow Madness, 20,000 Logs Under The Sea, and Santamphetamine.
