The temperature may be dropping but that doesn’t mean drivers can’t prepare for sunnier days. Ford dealerships across the U.S. are preparing to receive their first shipments of the convertible version of the 2015 Mustang, just in time for the holidays.

“… With available heated seats, remote start and selectable drive modes with a snow/wet setting, Mustang is the perfect offering for the season,” said Melanie Banker, Mustang brand manager. There’s a seat cooling feature available in the new Mustang as well, when its time to drop the top.

Just like the coupe version, the convertible pony car offers a 3.7-liter six-cylinder engine that’s good for 300 horsepower, an upgraded 5.0-liter eight-cylinder that pumps out 435 hp, and a 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine making a decent 310 hp to offer.. The addition of this turbo-four power plant is a first for the Mustang.

“Mustangs are made for year-round practicality and enjoyment,” Banker added, “so it’s exciting that customers are taking delivery of their convertible Mustang models – regardless of the season.”

That enjoyment is supported by muscle car’s new fully independent rear suspension, which gives the car cornering capabilities that are vastly improved over the previous generation’s solid rear axle. It doesn’t mean it’s lost anything when it comes to taking off in a straight line, however.

The 2015 Mustang has a built in launch control as standard, letting drivers dial in the perfect revs for a clean takeoff, and a new toy available dubbed “line lock” is there to cater to those who want to warm up the rears for grip … as well as those who like to make big smokey clouds of burned rubber.

Ford reports that the new Mustangs arriving to dealers aren’t staying on the lots much longer than a week, so those looking to get a drop-top ‘Stang and feel the chilly winter wind through their hair better get hustling soon.

One version of the electric Ford Mustang Mach-E is already sold out
Ford Mustang Mach E front view

Ford ruffled more than a few feathers when it decided to call its first purpose-designed electric car the Mustang Mach-E. While some argue it's not worthy of wearing the hallowed Mustang nameplate, its target audience doesn't seem to mind one bit, and one of the five Mach-E variants announced during the model's unveiling is already sold out.

The trim-level hierarchy include five models named Select, Premium, California Route 1, First Edition, and GT, respectively. The Blue Oval's official website notes that every First Edition model has already been spoken for. It sounds like a limited-edition model, and it might be, but Ford chose not to disclose how many units of the model it will make. It might cap production after manufacturing a predetermined number of First Edition variants, or it might build the model for a certain amount of time. We've reached out to the company to learn more, and we'll update this story if we hear back.

Ford Bronco breaks down in Baja, and SCG Boot nabs a class win first time out
scuderia cameron glickenhaus boot off roader pricing launch date specs scg

The Baja 1000 is one of the toughest races on the planet, and the 2019 edition had the added drama of a rematch between old rivals. The Ford Bronco R and Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus (SCG) Baja Boot are reincarnations of off-road racers that faced off 50 years ago in the Mexican race. The Bronco won that bout, but this time it didn't even make it to the finish line. The Baja Boot scored a class win, and was in good enough shape to drive back to the race's starting point.

While the Bronco that raced in the Baja 1000 in 1969 was based on a production model, the Bronco R is a purpose-built vehicle wearing styling from the upcoming 2021 Ford Bronco. The off-road racer was yet another step in Ford's agonizingly long rollout of the new Bronco. One of the original SUVs, the Bronco maintains a strong following among car enthusiasts despite having disappeared from showrooms in 1996.
