HBO is ramping up its HBO GO service, which is now available through Amazon Fire TV. The wildly popular app allows those with an HBO subscription through a participating cable or satellite affiliate to access popular HBO programming via Fire TV, and even search through the catalog using the Fire TV voice search. Additionally, Amazon announced HBO GO will be coming to the compact Fire TV Stick this spring.
Peter Larsen, Vice President of Amazon Devices calls HBO GO the “most requested service” for Fire TV.
“HBO has produced some of the most groundbreaking and award-winning TV shows and movies,” he adds, “and we are excited to bring this amazing content to our customers…”
Amazon’s Fire TV is, well, on fire lately. The company has increased its program selection four fold since its initial launch in April 2014. The new partnership with HBO adds the premium network’s 1,700 titles to the roster, including classic series, original films, miniseries, sports, documentaries, specials, and movies.
The news also bodes well for Fire TV users eyeing the forthcoming standalone HBO streaming service, which will make HBO content available without a cable or satellite subscription when Game of Thrones starts up again in April 2015. It is believed the new service will come in the form of an app that will be more stable than the current HBO GO platform, though the company has yet to release specific details while the service is still in development.
Until then, Fire TV users with the right credentials can get their HBO kicks on the device starting today.
