Get nostalgic as we unbox Sony’s limited-edition 20th Anniversary PlayStation 4

Sony celebrated 20 years of PlayStation on December 3, 2014, the anniversary of the original PlayStation console’s release back in 1994. To commemorate the occasion, the company released a limited run of specially designed PlayStation 4 consoles, all gussied up in a nod back to the look of the original machines.

The package includes a PS4, a DualShock 4, and a PlayStation 4 Eye camera, all of them grey. Small, nostalgic flourishes abound throughout the package, from the etched-face button icons on the surface of the console and DualShock 4 touchpad to the original, colorful PlayStation logo, to the fancy box the whole thing ships in.

Sony is expanding into mobile gaming by acquiring mobile developer Savage Game Studios. As part of the move, Sony announced that it has established the PlayStation Mobile Division.

Sony has been slowly dipping its toes outside its normal comfort zone of console exclusives in recent years, primarily by porting its first-party titles to PC. The success of these titles has been such that the company even acquired a dedicated PC port studio, Nixxes Software, to push this initiative. While there have been a select few Sony games on mobile, such as the oft-forgotten Uncharted: Fortune Hunter, the company has otherwise been absent on the platform.

According to Deadline, the adaptation is being directed by Anna Mastro (Secret Society of Second Born Royals) and written by Emily Jerome (Panopticon). However, the film's producers, distributor, and release window have all not been revealed just yet. For those unfamiliar with the Japanese PlayStation franchise, Gravity Rush follows a young woman named Kat with gravity-manipulating powers, who wakes up with amnesia in a city called Hekseville and has to defend it from a group of monsters called the Nevi. Gravity Rush was first released in 2012 for PlayStation Vita and was later ported to PlayStation 4 as a remaster. Gravity Rush 2 was released on PlayStation 4 in 2017.
