Toshiba’s Portégé Z20t can last two work days on a single charge

Intel’s new highly efficient Core M processors promised great battery life, but the first notebooks released with them used their benefits to deliver lighter systems (with smaller batteries) rather than truly outrageous endurance. Now, however, Toshiba has introduced an ultrabook that could change everyone’s perception of portable.

The Core M powered Portégé Z20t is a 2-in-1 with a detachable keyboard. Both the tablet and keyboard have a battery and, when combined, they can offer a claimed 17.5 hours of life. Detaching the keyboard roughly halves that figure to a still excellent nine hours.

Amazing battery life means portability is a priority, so Toshiba equips the Z20t with M.2 SSD drives to keep the system slim. Capacities of 128, 256 and 512GB are available alongside up to eight gigabytes of RAM.

A 12.5″ 1080p IPS touchscreen is the only available display. It will include support for a Wacom digitizer pen that offers a “natural pen-on-paper” writing experience. Toshiba believes this will give the Portégé a unique edge.

The tablet portion’s connectivity is set to include 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, micro HDMI, micro USB, and microSD. Adding the keyboard will tack on an additional, full-sized HDMI along with Ethernet, and two USB 3.0 ports.

Toshiba says the Portégé Z20t will have a base price of $1,399 and hit shelves later this month.
