Roberto Orci confirms he won’t be writing Star Trek 3

roberto orci confirms wont writing star trek 3 into darkness
There’s been no shortage of news regarding the upcoming, third installment of the rebooted Star Trek franchise, with former director (and franchise co-writer) Roberto Orci departing the project under mysterious circumstances a few weeks ago, only to have Justin Lin named as his replacement shortly thereafter. And now it appears that Orci’s script for the film might also be axed in the wake of his exit.

In comment thread at TrekMovie.com, Orci — who has a long-established history of joining conversations on the site’s message boards — Orci seemingly confirmed his dramatically reduced role in the project.

“I’m producing, nothing more or less,” wrote Orci (posting as “boborci”) in the long string of comments following a story about Lin’s attachment to the project.

Possibly even more surprising, however, was Orci’s somewhat reserved response on whether fans should be worried about the film with a new writing team and director.

“I won’t lie, I don’t know yet, but the story we are talking about would be awesome, hang in there!” he wrote.

With Paramount Pictures targeting July 8, 2016, for the film’s release date, things will need to get moving along quickly if the film is going to hit theaters on schedule. With the film’s script seemingly still in flux, it will be interesting to see how things come together for the highly anticipated sequel.

The Mandalorian season 3 finale gives the Star Wars series a much-needed reset
Bo-Katan holds up the Darksaber in The Mandalorian season 3 finale.

And just like that, The Mandalorian season 3 is over. Coming off a seemingly game-changing episode last week, the series’ highly anticipated season 3 finale, titled The Return, premiered this Wednesday on Disney+. To say that the episode wraps up all of The Mandalorian season 3’s remaining loose ends would be quite the understatement, too.

Not only does the finale give fans the climactic confrontation between Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito), Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal), and Bo-Katan (Katee Sackhoff) that they’ve long waited to see, but it also sets the latter two characters on totally different paths. For Bo-Katan, her role in the reconstruction of Mandalore seems to be just beginning. For Din Djarin, a new road has been laid out in front of him that isn't all that different from the one he used to walk.

Coming off its lackluster season 3 premiere, The Mandalorian has returned with an episode that helps put the Disney+ series back on track. The episode, titled The Mines of Mandalore, sends Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and Grogu to the surface of its eponymous, destroyed planet. His journey to the planet’s living waters takes a dangerous turn, however, when he is captured by a malevolent alien lurking deep beneath Mandalore’s surface.
