Here’s to 50 years of Mustang madness … and 50 more just like it

The 50th anniversary of the Ford Mustang is an excellent excuse for the blue oval to celebrate with as much tire smoke and pony play as they can commission. This video from the newly formed Ford Performance division gathers together Mustangs from all across its half-century lifespan to celebrate the milestone with balletic, choreographed shenanigans.

None of the Mustangs in the video are stock as each have significant mod work done on them. Just about every era of ‘Stang is represented here, even the much maligned Mustang II. The end result is a string of ponies that would make any Mustang fan’s heart burst.

Leading the pack is the 2015 Mustang RTR, the latest modded Mustang to bear the name of drift racer Vaughn Gittin Jr.’s aftermarket tuning brand. The “spec 2’ RTR adds custom grills, rear and chin spoiler, and side sills. An RTR-specific Magnaflow exhuast system, supercharger and cold air intake round out the mods, giving the 2015 ‘Stang the ability to squeeze 725 horsepower out of its 5.0-liter V8.

The context, however, isn’t really important as the whole tribute is pretty much muscle car pornography from start to finish. The cars themselves are lovely, the choreography is shot extremely well, and apart from a cringe-worthy line delivery from Vaughn Gittin Jr, there’s nothing but enjoyment to be derived from this.

As much fun as this video tribute to the Mustang is to watch, the unfortunate side effect is that it has us desperately longing for rear-wheel drive weather.

One version of the electric Ford Mustang Mach-E is already sold out
Ford Mustang Mach E front view

Ford ruffled more than a few feathers when it decided to call its first purpose-designed electric car the Mustang Mach-E. While some argue it's not worthy of wearing the hallowed Mustang nameplate, its target audience doesn't seem to mind one bit, and one of the five Mach-E variants announced during the model's unveiling is already sold out.

The trim-level hierarchy include five models named Select, Premium, California Route 1, First Edition, and GT, respectively. The Blue Oval's official website notes that every First Edition model has already been spoken for. It sounds like a limited-edition model, and it might be, but Ford chose not to disclose how many units of the model it will make. It might cap production after manufacturing a predetermined number of First Edition variants, or it might build the model for a certain amount of time. We've reached out to the company to learn more, and we'll update this story if we hear back.

Of course the Mach-E should be called a Mustang
Mustang Mach-E

Even before the debut of the Ford’s new Mach-E Mustang electric crossover, it seems the world had made up its mind that calling the vehicle a Mustang was a sacrilege of untold proportions. It was as if Ford had asked Italians to start putting pineapple on their pizzas. It was bad. When the vehicle was finally revealed, little changed in this chorus of doubt. Mustang fans and owners in particular were incensed that their beloved brand was being watered down with a mass-market people mover.

It would seem that we all very short memories.
