Fable Legends is coming to Windows 10 and you can play it with your Xbox friends

Amidst all of the hardcore tech-geek news about operating systems and user experience and productivity apps (ew), Microsoft slipped a little bit of straight-up gaming news into its Windows 10 reveal: Fable Legends is coming to the new OS as well, with both that and the Xbox One version set to arrive sometime in 2015.

Details are scant beyond what we already know about the Lionhead Studios-developed effort, which was first announced in 2013 as an Xbox One exclusive. The biggest revelation is that the newly cross-platform game also supports cross-platform play. It’s not a first for Xbox and Windows games to play nice together, but it’s not something we’ve seen during the latest generation of console hardware.

More exciting is the possibility that Fable Legends is the first step toward a bigger focus on uniting the Windows and Xbox audiences. Windows 10’s new Xbox app is similar in a lot of ways to the existing SmartGlass software, which allows an assortment of mobile devices (Android and iOS as well as Windows Phone) to access features from and issue commands to Xbox consoles.

Could more cross-platform gaming between Windows and Xbox be on the horizon? It’s all speculation for now, but Microsoft promises to share more details on Windows 10’s gaming capabilities at the annual Game Developer’s Conference in March 2015.

Google has launched the open beta for Google Play Games for PC in the U.S. The tech giant made the announcement in a blog post on Wednesday, saying that the beta is available for download in seven other countries as well, including Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Indonesia, Philippines, Malaysia, and Singapore.

"We’re thrilled to expand our platform to more markets for players to enjoy their favorite games on Google Play," said Google Play Games director Arjun Dayal. "As we move towards a full release, we will continue to add new features and evaluate developer and player feedback."

Microsoft added the ability for people to design their own Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 in the Xbox Design Lab. Starting today, you can customize and order this kind of controller on Xbox Design Lab's website.

Colloquially referred to as the Xbox Elite Series 2 Controller, this enhanced gamepad first released in 2019. Unlike the standard Xbox One or Xbox Series X controllers, the Elite Series 2 features adjustable-tension thumbsticks and shorter hair-trigger locks on the trigger buttons in addition to interchangeable thumbstick toppers, paddles, and d-pads. Meanwhile, the Xbox Design Lab first launched in 2016 and gives people a way to design and order Xbox controllers with customized colors and engravings.
While there was already a bit of customization with the Elite Series 2's buttons, players can now go to Xbox Design Lab and personalize the colors of the body, back case, d-pad, bumpers, triggers, thumbsticks, thumbstick base and ring, and buttons. You can even adjust the hue of the Xbox button on your controller with the Xbox Accessories App once it's in your hands. You can get the controller itself for just $150, but if you want all of the interchangeable accessories, the price jumps up to $210.
This announcement comes on the same day as the release date reveal for Sony's DualSense Edge, a customizable PS5 controller. It will cost $200 when it launches on January 26, 2023, though people will have to pay an extra $20 if they want to get replaceable stick modules. Whether you play on Xbox or PlayStation, you certainly don't have a lack of options when it comes to customizable controllers.

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty has a new demo. Here’s where and when you can play it

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty received a demo on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, allowing you to try out Team Ninja's challenging new Soulslike title for a limited time between September 16 and September 25.

Announced by publisher Koei Tecmo during Tokyo Game Show, the trial version of Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is an in-development look at what Team Ninja has been working on over the past few years. Of course, the team is known for sharing limited-time demos for its games, as titles like Nioh and Nioh 2 both received multiple beta tests leading up to their respective releases. And as with those previous trials, Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty's demo requires an online connection to access, though it's worth noting that it doesn't require a paid membership to PlayStation Plus or Xbox Live Gold.
