Watch the first two minutes of The Walking Dead mid-season premiere

With zombie drama The Walking Dead returning from its mid-season break this Sunday, AMC has released the first two minutes of the February 8 episode to watch online — and if you were expecting the tension to let up when the series returns, you’re in for a rough weekend.

The opening of the premiere picks up where the mid-season finale left off, with various members of Rick Grimes’ band of survivors mourning the lives lost in the prior episode. With their hope for the future dwindling, the group finds themselves on the road once again, carrying what little humanity they have left along with them.

Titled “What Happened and What’s Going On,” the mid-season premiere was directed by makeup effects expert Greg Nicotero, who has directed several key episodes of the hit series so far, including the Season Four and Season Five premieres. The Walking Dead has already been renewed for a sixth season, which is expected to premiere in the fall.

The series is based on the comic book created by Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore, and Charlie Adlard. It stars Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus, Steven Yeun, Lauren Cohan, Chad Coleman, Chandler Riggs, Melissa McBride, Emily Kinney, Danai Gurira, and Sonequa Martin-Green.

The mid-season premiere of The Walking Dead debuts February 8 at 9 p.m. EST on AMC.

The Walking Dead: Dead City season 1’s ending, explained
The Walking Dead: Dead City showing Maggie, Negan, and a mysterious man standing in the middle of a dark Manhattan.

In November 2022, The Walking Dead fans were sad to see the long-running series come to an end after 11 seasons. But less than a year later, two popular characters have returned in The Walking Dead: Dead City.

Against the new setting of New York, the story follows Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), Maggie (Lauren Cohan), and their reluctant journey together to save Maggie's son, Hershel (Logan Kim), who has been kidnapped by someone from Negan’s past. There are just six episodes in the first season. The ending, and the second season renewal, confirm that The Walking Dead’s notorious barbed-wire bat-wielding villain and badass mom aren’t going anywhere, though there’s still no love lost between them.

James Bond rides a motorcycle in Skyfall.

Tom Cruise has been storming the Hollywood blockbuster scene as of late, and his latest hit is Paramount Pictures and director Christopher McQuarrie's Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One. McQuarrie has a fantastic eye for action thrillers, making it easy to get lost in high-stakes fight scenes or massive set pieces, and Netflix has a respectable catalogue of similar films that are every bit as good.

The streamer is still one of the leaders in the crowded TV and movie streaming market, with plenty of action movies to satiate viewers' hunger for thrills. From the British equivalent of the Mission: Impossible franchise in the form of the James Bond movies to original productions like Extraction, Netflix has a few movies that are more than worth watching after you check out Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One.
