Steve Jobs’ 60th birthday honored by Tim Cook on Twitter

tim cook celebrates jobs 60th birthday on twitter love what you do stevejobsiphone
Steve Jobs, the influential, innovative and controversial founder of Apple, would have turned 60 today had he not lost his battle with pancreatic cancer in October of 2011. Current Apple CEO Tim Cook honored the memory of his predecessor and colleague on Twitter with one of Jobs’ most well-known quotes; “the only way to do great work is to love what you do.”

While Jobs has passed, his memory lives on. The culture of Apple is still molded from his vision, and though every decision by Tim Cook is criticized from the perspective of whether it is what Jobs would have done, the company still sits the foundation of design excellence he built. It’s proven to be a strong foundation, too. Apple’s market capital has reached new heights in recent weeks while rumors of a potential Apple Car project circulate.

Cooks’ tweet was followed by an outpouring of support, with almost 11,000 retweets and counting, including numerous magazines and industry analysts. If some Apple headliners, like Jony Ive and Craig Federighi, are missing from the list it’s only because they aren’t on Twitter at all. Cook’s somewhat active presence is unusual among the company’s top brass.

It’s impossible to know what technology Jobs might have encouraged if he’d lived on, but we do know his legacy and his company continues to push the limits and explore new territory even after his life was cut short. Happy birthday, Steve!

Trying to buy a GPU in 2023 almost makes me miss the shortage
Two AMD Radeon RX 7000 graphics cards on a pink surface.

The days of the GPU shortage are long over, but somehow, buying a GPU is harder than ever -- and that sentiment has very little to do with stock levels. It's just that there are no obvious candidates when shopping anymore.

In a generation where no single GPU stands out as the single best graphics card, it's hard to jump on board with the latest from AMD and Nvidia. I don't want to see another GPU shortage, but the state of the graphics card market is far from where it should be.
This generation is all over the place

This tiny ThinkPad can’t quite keep up with the MacBook Air M2
Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Nano Gen 3 rear view showing lid and logo.

While the laptop industry continues to move toward 14-inch laptops and larger, the 13-inch laptop remains an important category. One of the best is the Apple MacBook Air M2, with an extremely thin and well-built chassis, great performance, and incredibly long battery life.

Lenovo has recently introduced the third generation of its ThinkPad X1 Nano, one of the lightest laptops we've tested and a good performer as well. It's stiff competition, but which of these two diminutive laptops stands apart?
