Cheeky spy shot reveals the backside of the new Honda Civic Type R

Honda Civic Type R Paris 1
We’re close to thoroughly wearing out the phrase “…prior to its Geneva Auto Show reveal,” but even as the show’s opening rapidly approaches, there’s still time for a couple of things to slip out. This year’s show is already shaping up to be dominated by track-ready supercar juggernauts, but one car we’re particularly keen on seeing revealed is the all new Honda Civic Type R, of which we have just received one more crafty preview shot.

The shot comes courtesy of Vehiclnavi, where lower flank of the back end is exposed as the Type R sits in what looks to be a vehicle assembly facility. The sheet also seems to be bunched up on a substantially sized rear wing, too, which makes sense, as Honda has emphasized in previous statements that the aerodynamic design of the car was a top priority.

This, along with a new 2.0-liter VTEC turbo four-cylinder, results in Honda claiming that the sporty Civic is able to reach a top speed of 167 miles per hour. Unlike the rest of the car, the engine specs have been kept under tighter wraps.

Interestingly, this isn’t the first snapshot of the new hot Civic we’ve seen. Earlier this week, we got a glimpse of the Type R as it drifted by in a new commercial featuring many members of Honda’s lineup.

We’ve heard rumors that the engine output of the Civic Type R is more than 275 horsepower, but we’ll have to just have to get through the weekend for some official numbers when the sheet is fully pulled off at Geneva.

Honda doesn’t currently have plans for this Civic Type R to come stateside, but there is talk that a version derived from this model may be on its way instead.
