VW announces ‘Borussia Mönchengladbach’ edition Golf … now say it three times fast

Volkswagen Golf ‘Borussia Mönchengladbach Edition
If you’re a hardcore fan of soccer and Golfs (the VW kind), Volkswagen has just unveiled a special version of the hatchback that could be right up your alley.

Dubbed the ‘Borussia Mönchengladbach’ Special Edition, which Americans will clearly have no trouble pronouncing, the car is a tribute to the famed German football/soccer club of the same name.

Founded in 1900, the club is one of the most successful football groups in Germany. Its color scheme is white, green, and black, all of which you can see adorned on the special edition Golf above.

The car wears the club’s logo across the hood and sides, with black and green striping contrasting the Golf’s clean white finish. For added exterior flare, the hatchback has been fitted with the ‘R-Line’ exterior package, which includes tweaked front and rear bumpers, fog lights, and a gloss black grill among other things. The Golf is also equipped with 18-inch ‘Salvador-style’ wheels.

Inside, VW has added a multi-function leather steering wheel and a special treat for Borussia Mönchengladbach enthusiasts. As part of a “high quality fan package,” owners will find a signed home shirt, fan scarf, two number plate holders with club logo, a sun visor set with club logo, and, you guessed it, a key chain! There are no major mechanical modifications.

Only 50 models of the limited edition Golf will be produced in Germany, and it’s available to order now at participating dealers. Volkswagen says the vehicle will offer up to a €3,300 ($3,503) discount.

It’s no Wolfsburg Edition, but hey, you can’t just find those shirts or key chains anywhere.
