You could soon head on over to an Apple Store to trade-in your Android phone for an iPhone

Up until now, if you wanted to trade in a device for an Apple product at one of the company’s stores, you could only trade in Apple products. However, 9to5 Mac reports this could change in the near future.

The new trade-in program would allow customers to walk into any Apple Store and trade in non-Apple smartphones, notably including Android devices, in exchange for gift cards. These gift cards could then be used towards the purchase of any iPhone, with trade-in values determined by employees. As with other trade-in programs, the cosmetic and functional conditions of the handset will be taken into account.

The outlet reports Apple will launch the new trade-in program in the next couple of weeks, with retail store employee training beginning this week. Employees will be trained on how to transfer contacts from customers’ handsets to iPhones, though customers will have to move other data to their new iPhones on their own.

If the report proves true, and Apple starts taking trade ins from Android users, it could increase the number of people who switch over to the iPhone. Apple boasted earlier this year that many Android users are turning to the latest iPhones. The company even posted a guide on how to switch from Google’s OS to iOS.

Apple originally launched its Reuse and Recycle in-store trade-in program back in 2013 with the purpose of helping people upgrade from older iPhone models to the iPhone 5, iPhone 5C, and iPhone 5S. Apple expanded the program to include iPads last summer.

If you own an Apple product — be in the iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, or a Mac — you should update it immediately. Why? Apple has begun rolling out updates to all of its devices with fixes for a serious security vulnerability.

The security vulnerability is known as CVE-2023-32434, and it has to do with the kernel privileges of Apple devices. Per Apple's website, the vulnerability allows third-party apps to "execute arbitrary code." In other words, if a bad actor knows how to exploit this vulnerability, they could potentially gain access to your Apple device and wreck havoc.

The Apple Vision Pro has given VR its iPhone moment
A person is watching a movie using the Apple Vision Pro.

"One more thing" means you're about to be treated to something groundbreaking -- and that's exactly what happened when Apple CEO Tim Cook uttered those fateful three words at the end of the recent Worldwide Developers Conference 2023 keynote. The Apple Vision Pro is not just another VR headset; no, it's an incredible piece of technology that pushes the boundaries of what we can expect from both virtual reality and augmented reality. The display tech, sensor quality, and polish are like nothing we've ever seen before in a headset — and they signal a big jump forward in VR and AR tech.

The only quibble is the price: $3,500. That's a whole lot of cash, and due to that, I'm not confident the Vision Pro will appear in every other house in the next few years.
