Warning, Mild Spoilers from Daredevil Season 1 Ahead
After successfully managing to wash the taste of Ben Affleck’s 2003 bomb out of the collective mouths of Daredevil fans everywhere, it seems that the star of Daredevil on Netflix wants to incorporate even more comic book heroes and villains in Season 2.
Speaking with IGN, Daredevil himself, Charlie Cox, expressed his desire to bring in more characters from the Marvel Universe for the second season of the Netflix hit. “I love Stilt-Man. I love Owlsley. I think in our show we’re more likely to see the likes of Bullseye, The Punisher and Elektra. I don’t know if any of those characters will appear, and also I don’t know what’s going to happen with Wilson Fisk. He’s certainly not out of the picture. Hopefully he’ll come back.”
Eagle-eyed fans of the show and comics will have noticed a number of Easter Eggs that were strewn about the thirteen episode first season. From the over-arcing plot about rebuilding New York after the events of The Avengers, to newspaper clippings mentioning events from The Incredible Hulk, to costume designs in Melvin Potter’s workshop.
Bullseye is one of Daredevil’s greatest foes, on par with Wilson Fisk. He is a lethal assassin who can make any object into a deadly projectile. He may have even been hinted at in Season 1, as a sniper who shot a cop. The Punisher, a.k.a. Frank Castle, is an antihero with military training who punishes those he deems as criminals in any way he sees fit. Elektra, a.k.a Elektra Natchios, is female ninja assassin and on-again, off-again love interest of Daredevil. Their relationship was hinted at in Season 1 in a flashback.
It’ll be very interesting to see how closely the show will get to the comics and what the showrunners will be able to work with, now that Daredevil is officially part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Daredevil is slated to return to Netflix in 2016.
