The carmaker announced today that it will debut an all-new version of Sync 3 with the 2016 Escape and Fiesta, both of which go on sale this summer.
Coming along with the newest iteration of Sync 3 will be faster performance, conversational voice recognition, and a ‘smartphone-like’ pinch-to-zoom touchscreen, bolstered by new hardware and software all around.
“Sync always has been about providing a safer way for our customers to connect their smartphones in order to keep their eyes on the road and hands on the wheel,” said Mark LaNeve, Vice President of Ford Marketing and Sales. “Customers continue to tell us they want this technology, and they want it to be fast and easy to use – like a smartphone. Sync 3 delivers on that request.”
Ford improved the system’s voice recognition functions in a logical way — simply reducing the number of steps needed to carry out a command. The brand’s ‘AppLink’ suite has also been refined, integrating Apple’s ‘Siri Eyes-Free’ when connected to an iPhone. Sync 3 also equips WiFi software updates and enhanced ‘911 Assist.’
Ford’s competitor, Chevrolet, announced last week that it will offer Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity across 14 models. The vehicles include the 2016 Cruze, Spark, Malibu, Impala, Volt, Camaro, Camaro Convertible, Corvette, Corvette Convertible, Colorado, Tahoe, Silverado, Silverado HD, and Suburban.
Ford is expected to confirm CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity later this year. As we reported in February, the automaker is will likely preserve its ‘AppLink’ feature alongside the duo from Silicon Valley, despite having similar functions.
