Fiat-Chrysler has introduced a digital concept dubbed SRT Tomahawk Vision Gran Turismo. Designed by SRT exclusively for Gran Turismo 6, the Tomahawk previews what supercars could look like in 20 years.
The Tomahawk takes the form of a low-slung single-seater race car with an aerodynamic body and an ultra-low center of gravity. The front end features sharp, almost McLaren-like boomerang-shaped LED headlights and a huge splitter, while the rear end gets thin horizontal tail lamps, a tall air diffuser and five round exhaust tips.
SRT’s digital racer is even more revolutionary under the skin. Compressed air, stored in composite tanks that are a structural part of the chassis, is automatically released to perform a number of functions including spinning the front wheels, activating aerodynamic devices like spoilers and air brakes, filling up the driver’s G-suit, and modifying the stiffness of the suspension system. The tanks can be fully charged before a race, and they can be topped up while driving thanks to a brake energy recuperation system.
Gran Turismo 6 players will be asked to choose from three different versions of the Tomahawk called S, GTS-R, and X, respectively. The Tomahawk S packs a mid-mounted, wide-angle 7.0-liter V10 engine that sends nearly 800 horsepower to the rear wheels, while the aforementioned compressed air system spins the front wheels when extra power is needed. Together, the two power sources generate up to 1,007 horsepower.
The GTS-R is powered by an evolution of the hybrid drivetrain that makes 1,450 horsepower by using a more powerful version of the V10. The GTS-R also benefits from a long list of weight-saving measures that allow it to hit a theoretical top speed of over 300 mph.
Finally, the Tomahawk X turns the dial up to 11 with a 2,168-horsepower version of the V10. The drivetrain generates up to 2,590 horsepower, allowing the Tomahawk to reach a top speed of 404 mph.
It goes without saying that the SRT Tomahawk Vision Gran Turismo will never see the light of day. However, gamers will be able to download it and take it for a virtual spin in a couple of weeks.
