Batman V. Superman synopsis hints at a partnership for the greater good

Batman vs Superman
Warner Bros.
Batman and Superman will have more to contend with than just each other in the upcoming collision of worlds, Batman: V. Superman: Dawn of Justice. That’s according to the recently-released official synopsis for the 2016 film.

With Warner Bros. Pictures making a big splash at this year’s Licensing Expo in Las Vegas, the studio has accompanied all of that buzz with the very first, officially sanctioned breakdown of the plot for Batman V. Superman — and it hints at a much greater threat facing both heroes.

The synopsis reads as follows:

Fearing the actions of a god-like Super Hero left unchecked, Gotham City’s own formidable, forceful vigilante takes on Metropolis’s most revered, modern-day savior, while the world wrestles with what sort of hero it really needs. And with Batman and Superman at war with one another, a new threat quickly arises, putting mankind in greater danger than it’s ever known before.

While the clash between Batman and Superman was a certainty (it is in the title, after all), there’s been no shortage of rumors regarding the probability of a threat — including yet another DC Comics supervillain — that could force the two superheroes to set aside their feud and unite against a common enemy.

Along with Henry Cavill reprising his Man of Steel role as Superman, Batman V. Superman features the debut of Ben Affleck as Batman, as well as Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, and Jason Momoa as Aquaman. Jeremy Irons will also take on the role of Alfred Pennyworth, butler to Batman’s alter ego, billionaire playboy Bruce Wayne.

The film also features the return of Man of Steel cast members Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne, and Diane Lane, as well as the introduction of a new character played by Holly Hunter that was created for the movie.

Directed by Zack Snyder, Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice is based on a script by Chris Terrio and David S. Goyer. The film is scheduled to hit theaters March 25, 2016.

The 5 most powerful Superman villains, ranked
Darkseid sits on a throne in Justice League.

Because he was essentially the first superhero, Superman has a long and storied history filled with villains. Some of them are iconic, and some of them were complete duds. In that long history, though, Superman has also faced a number of incredibly powerful villains.

After all, because Superman is also one of the most powerful villains in superhero history, he has to face some insanely powerful villains in order to come up against an actual threat. Superman usually wins the fight, even when he comes up against these villains, but the fights are certainly a little close for comfort. These five baddies are not only some of the most powerful villains the superhero has faced in his 84 years of existence, but they are also some of the most fearsome foes that have ever been created.

The best superhero deaths in movies, ranked
Robert Downey Jr. In Avengers: Endgame.

One of the most common features in superhero movies is someone close to the protagonist getting killed off. Gwen Stacy's brutal death in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and Jonathan Kent getting killed by a tornado in Man of Steel are just two such tragedies that come to mind.

Although rare, there are times when the heroes themselves get the ax. Many movies have shown superheroes die in ways both noble and tragic, from self-sacrifice to a brutal battle with the film's villain. The demises on this list prove that being a crime-fighter isn't all fun and games, so be prepared to cry all over again with the best superhero deaths in movies.
