Sick of Taylor Swift? ‘Discover the undiscovered’ with ReverbNation’s EchoMusic

When it comes to music apps, there are plenty of apps for iOS and Android users — from Apple Music and Pandora, to Google Play Music and Spotify. But what if you’re looking to discover the next big artist before anyone else does?

ReverbNation, a company that helps emerging artists get started with the music industry, launched a new mobile app called EchoMusic to help music fans “discover the undiscovered.”

EchoMusic immediately separates itself from most music apps because there’s no signup required to use the service. You simply install the app and start playing new music from up-and-coming artists. Choose from a wide variety of genres including Pop, Country, Rock, Dance, Hip Hop, Metal, Rock, and more. By tapping on the menu icon in the top left-hand corner, you can browse through the different genres of music, see saved songs, and look at your play history.

When you find an artist you like, just tap the image to play more songs. To save a favorite track, tap the heart. The app offers unlimited skips and is also ad-free.

“We have the world’s largest catalog of music from new artists,” said ReverbNation Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Mike Doernberg. “But we also recognize that it’s not enough just to have a lot of music. There needs to be a way for music fans to be able to make sense of all of it. The EchoMusic app contains the very best artists in our community, hand-picked by our curation team, and served up in an accessible, easy to use way that helps music fans discover new bands before anyone else and share them with their friends.”

Although EchoMusic doesn’t have a built-in social setup, you can easily share your favorite songs and artists with friends via text, email, or social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter. It’s also a great tool for artists who want to get their music out there. ReverbNation bands can add their own music within the app and share it directly with fans.

“As the app’s user base develops, we expect EchoMusic to become a powerful tool in ReverbNation artists’ arsenal to expand their fan bases and gain attention from music industry tastemakers,” Doernberg said.

ReverbNation promises to add 200,000 new songs a month, so fans can always discover new tracks. Most of the artists that are highlighted in EchoMusic are members of Connect, which is ReverbNation’s way of providing support to promising artists.

You can download EchoMusic from the App Store and Google Play Store.

Before you head to the app store on your phone to buy a voice-recording app, take a moment to consider the apps that may already be installed on your phone. Why? In my experience, they're likely all you really need. I’ve recorded interviews and voice-overs for work for years, and I’ve found the two best examples come preinstalled on your phone already, so they’re entirely free to use.

Google Pixel Tablet just got its first big discount and it’s worth a look
Google Pixel Tablet on its charging dock.

Tablets are a dime-a-dozen these days, with offerings from all the great brands including Apple, Samsung, Lenovo, and more. So, if you really want to stand out in a sea of similar tech, you need to do things a little differently. That's what Google's Pixel Tablet offers. How? It comes with a unique speaker dock that can be used to both charge the device and offer room-filling sound -- almost like a smart speaker add-on. Better yet, when your Pixel Tablet is docked it benefits from the Hub Mode, turning the device into a smart display, with digital photo frame support, smart home controls, and hands-free Google functionality. Of course, it could set you back at full price, normally $499 unless you find it included in a roundup of the best Google Pixel deals. Well, guess what? Thanks to a Best Buy Google Pixel Tablet deal, you can get it today for $439 and save $60. Hurry, though, it's part of Best Buy's recent 48-hour sale so it won't stick around for long.

Why you should buy the Google Pixel Tablet
Okay, okay, so in our Google Pixel Tablet review, Joe Maring did give it less than stellar remarks, but he called out its reliable fingerprint sensor, comfortability during use and excellent speaker dock. Honestly, how many tablets come with a matching speaker dock that transforms the entire experience? This tablet also marks a "lot of firsts" for Google, as it's the first tablet from the company in nearly five years, the first Android tablet in eight years, and can be converted into a smart home display with the speaker dock. All of which are notable milestones.
