These vintage Mercedes G-Wagons will have you driving like its 1989

For more than three decades, the Mercedes-Benz G-Class has been an icon of status, capability, and style. Everyone from military officers to hip-hop moguls has advocated for the long-standing German SUV, and with a new version expected to arrive in 2017, vintage models — especially those in good condition — will be harder and harder to come by.

A New Jersey company called G-wagons For Sale is hoping to change that by offering restored and refurbished G-Class vehicles from the 1980s, ranging from plaid-laden civilian models to troop-carrying military versions with rear-mounted bench seats. The G-Class, also known as the G-Wagen, G-Wagon, Puch G, or Geländewagen, has worn many hats over its 35-year tenure, and that diversity is reflected in the brand’s portfolio.

Take the 1989 G230 for example, pictured above. G-wagons For Sale founders Vitaly Fargesen and Viktor Prozorov have restored the vehicle back to near-original condition, right down to the epic checkered interior and factory gauges. Like a colonial townhouse with flat screen TVs, the G230 is a nice mix of old and new, evidenced by the JVC stereo and modern Varta battery.

If you’re interested in going on safari, check out the beautiful tan 1989 Puch G250 Diesel, which has been fitted with extra seating, a spare jerry can, and a good old-fashioned axe. They just don’t make them like this anymore.

For those with a penchant for history, G-wagons For Sale also offers renovated military versions like the 1987 G240 Wolf Diesel, finished in beautiful Hunter Green. Most the the company’s productions come with the original books and records as well.

Mercedes-Benz EQS first drive review: Plush enough to make Tesla owners jealous
Front three quarter view of the 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS.

A Mercedes-Benz electric sedan was inevitable. The meteoric success of the Tesla Model S, plus stricter European emissions standards gave Mercedes no choice but to meet Tesla on the EV battlefield. But a company that’s been building cars for over 100 years doesn’t rush into anything.

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS sedan is our first glimpse at the automaker’s electric future. It heralds a range of electric cars for North America (including an EQS SUV) and showcases new technology, including the largest infotainment touchscreen ever fitted to a production car. Mercedes didn’t choose the name EQS by accident. “EQ” is the automaker’s electric sub-brand, while “S” signifies that this car is the electric equivalent to Mercedes’ traditional flagship, the S-Class sedan.

2021 Mercedes-Benz S-Class first drive review: Titan of tech
A broad grille and low stance give the 2021 Mercedes Benz S Class an aggressive look.

The Mercedes-Benz S-Class is the platonic ideal of a luxury car. Since 1972, it has embodied automotive class and sophistication. It’s also the most important car Mercedes makes.

The S-Class has long served as a technological pioneer for the auto industry, introducing features, such as antilock brakes, airbags, and stability control, that eventually trickled down to more mainstream cars.
