Acer’s new Predator Desktop a gamer’s dream with Skylake and 64GB of RAM

With Intel’s new Skylake chips on the way to desktops, it only makes sense that they would start popping up in prebuilt machines, and now we’re starting to see this with the announcement of the Acer Predator G6-710. At the core of the machine is the new 6th Generation Intel Core i7-6700K processor, but the rest of the machine can keep up, too.

In addition to the liquid-cooled, overclocked, quad-core CPU, the Predator G6-710 packs in 64GB of DDR4 RAM, a massive amount of memory that ensures snappy response in even the most demanding games. For graphics, the Acer takes advantage of a standard Nvidia 980, a hearty card with 4GB of VRAM and support for Nvidia’s G-Sync technology.

Acer describes the design of the case as its “belligerent armour” which is an exciting way of saying this computer would look terribly out of place in an office. The sharp contours and striking front bay designs will appeal in particular to the type of PC gamers who posts frequent pictures of their battlestation on the Internet. It does serve a purpose though, enabling access to a number of Acer Easy-swap drive bays for up to 12 terabytes of data storage.

No word yet on pricing, but Acer did share that the Predator G6-710 will be available starting in October, with detailed pricing and configuration info arriving then as well. Whatever the price, the setup will also include a SteelSeries APEX RAW keyboard, and a SteelSeries Sensei RAW gaming mouse, so all you will need is a monitor to start gaming.

Acer Predator doubles down on OLED, mini-LED, and extreme curves

Acer has brought four new Predator gaming monitors to CES 2024 this year, two of which are OLED and two of which are mini-LED. Excluding Samsung, Acer might now have one of the largest lineups of OLED and mini-LED gaming displays.

Let's start with the Predator Z57, the largest and most audacious of the four. The massive mini-LED monitor uses the same panel as the Odyssey Neo G9, and boasts an insane resolution of 7680 x 2160 and 2,304 local dimming zones. Unlike the Odyssey Neo G9, however, the Predator Z57 only has a 120Hz refresh rate instead of 240Hz.

Acer’s new gaming laptop bring Nvidia RTX 40-series GPUs under $1,000

You can find Nvidia's RTX 40-series graphics cards in some of the best gaming laptops, but the downside is that they're all expensive, if not overpriced. Previously, that meant you'd be forced to choose between getting something affordable or getting access to Nvidia's GPU cheat code -- DLSS 3. Now, there's finally some hope on the horizon, as Acer is launching a budget-friendly laptop that can still run modern games. We're talking about the Acer Nitro V 15.

The new laptop will be available in a few different configurations, each equipped with Intel's latest 13th-Gen CPUs, including either Core i5 or Core i7 models. All of them also come with a 15.6-inch 144Hz display. While every configuration also features a Nvidia graphics card, not all of those GPUs are equally thrilling. The cheapest model, priced at $700, features a Core i5-13420H CPU and an RTX 2050 GPU. This comes paired with just 8GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD.
