Helldivers: Super-Earth Ultimate Edition gets a launch trailer

Hey, you! Do you love freedom? Do you hate giant, murderous, freedom-hating robots and insects? And do you love physical versions of previously digital-only releases? Then Sony and Arrowhead Game Studios have something for you: Helldivers: Super-Earth Ultimate Edition is less than two weeks away, and the publisher has released a launch trailer to celebrate.

“Command tomorrow’s most sophisticated and overwhelming firepower,” the narrator states as the trailer highlights the Super-Earth Ultimate Edition‘s twelve included DLC packs. In addition to extra guns and vehicles, it also contains special character packs, including the close-quarters “Specialist” and the chemical weapon-using “Hazard Ops,” as well as a PS4 dynamic theme.

Helldivers originally released earlier this spring for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation Vita — complete with cross-buy and cross-save support — and two free expansion packs followed. The first, Turning up the Heat, brought a cannon-loading minigame, the “Illuminate Obelisk” enemy, and lava-spewing environments when it released in May. The second expansion, Masters of the Galaxy, was released last month, and brought three new “Enemy Masters”: the “Hive Lord,” the “Siege Mech,” and the “Great Eye.”

Helldivers: Super-Earth Ultimate Edition arrives in stores on August 18, and will set you back $40. While that might sound unreasonable given the $20 price point for the original game and the fact that both content updates were free, each of the twelve included DLC packs cost a minimum of $3 on their own. The PlayStation 4 version is included on the disc, while the PlayStation 3 and Vita games are available as free downloads — so that’s three different ways to evaluate its worth.

And if you can’t wait until August 18 to play a new release from Arrowhead, you’re impatient, but you’re also in luck: Gauntlet: Slayer Edition arrives next Tuesday to PlayStation 4, complete with new modes, weapons, local multiplayer, and all the food-needing warriors you could ever want.
