#Everybodypray for the film adaptation of HBO’s Deadwood

It’s not Hollywood, it’s HBO.

The network might have to think about a change in slogan after a recent report that a Deadwood movie could be in the offing.

The news comes on the heels of a less-than-lukewarm reception for this summer’s Entourage movie, but this feels like less like a cash grab and more like a way to end a show that never got the climax it deserved.

A spokesperson for HBO recently told Variety that only “very preliminary discussions” have taken place with regard to a possible film, and we don’t yet know if the network is making this a priority or just kicking the proverbial tires.

For what it’s worth, it seems like at least one Deadwood alum is on board. On Wednesday, Garret Dillahunt (Francis Wolcott) made his appeal to execs via social media. Tweets below.

So uh….I'm hearing credible rumors about a #Deadwood movie. #Everybodypray

Come on @HBO…you made @entouragemovie. Give the #Deadwood fans some closure. #Youcandoit.

Those tweets will certainly help to build momentum for the project, but if he really wanted to speak his mind, he could have included a third: “Just hope it’s better than the Entourage movie #EverybodyPray.”

To be fair, we’ve heard these sorts of rumors before. In the past, the network had floated the concept of a shorter fourth season of the series, but creator David Milch nixed the idea. Still, Milch once told Esquire of Deadwood “I still nourish the hope that we’re going to get to do a little more work in that area.”

During its short stint on television, Deadwood was lauded for shirking the cliches of Westerns past with nuanced characters and unpredictable plotting. The series is recognized as among HBO’s best and is rightfully mentioned in the same breath as shows like The Wire, Game of Thrones, and The Sopranos.

While a film would only amount to an extra two episodes or so of the hourlong series, anything is better than nothing. Are we excited at the prospect of Al Swearengen & Co. coming to a theater near you?  You’re $*&#!@% right we $*&#!@% are!

Metroid should be Nintendo’s next hit adaptation after The Super Mario Bros. Movie
Samus Aran in the Power Suit with the EMMI robots behind her.

Across film and TV, video game adaptations are becoming increasingly prominent, and the commercial success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie should pave the way for Metroid's time in the sun. Though The Super Mario Bros. Movie is a bit of a superficial adventure, the movie's colorful visuals and reminiscent fun of the source material are more than enough to draw massive crowds.

That box office success should also be a testament to the viability of gaming adaptations in general, and the recent resurgence of Metroid should ride its tailwinds. The latter's recent critical and commercial acclaim from Dread and Prime Remastered for the Switch combined with the storytelling potential of the TV medium could take the Nintendo brand in bold new directions.

This action film is one of the most popular movies on Netflix. Here’s why you should watch it
the mother reasons why you should watch netflix action movie holding a rifle

The action genre is a tried and true formula that will never cease to be popular. It's often the spectacle of watching a sole individual achieve the impossible through the sheer force of will. And while the climactic moments of these films are often miles from reality, it's the power fantasy and the jolt of adrenaline these explosive sequences often deliver that make action movies so appealing. What ultimately makes or breaks an action film are the characters at the heart of the story. We'll return time and time again to watch Tom Holland's plucky Spider-Man experience the next big upset in his web-slinging career. And let's not forget Vin Diesel's Dom Toretto and his family of specialists who seem to hold an unshakeable power over death itself.

But in Netflix's latest offering, The Mother, the breathless velocity is laced with a serious edge. Jennifer Lopez sheds her rom-com persona and assumes a tough, surprisingly effective action-hero persona. As an expert assassin, Lopez must protect the child she gave up years ago from being killed by former associates who want both of them dead. The Mother is a lean, often brutal action movie, one that has proven to be a hit with audiences as it's one of the most popular movies on Netflix. Here's why you should watch it right now.
