LG’s next smartphone for 2015 might be coming in October, if new LG G4 Note rumors are correct. The phone passed through TENAA (China’s FCC) earlier this week, hinting at a close launch date. An LG official also apparently leaked the October 10 date earlier this week during a briefing of the company’s plans. The official explicitly named the smartphone and the launch date.
The images from TENAA show a large edge-to-edge display, back buttons, and a plastic back cover. The G4 Note will not be the premium smartphone we expected earlier this year, according to new rumors that hint at a removable back and battery, as well as a plastic finish.
No stylus was included in the images, so this may not be the G4 Note, but rather the G4 Pro or G4 Script. It wouldn’t really make sense if the G4 Note did not come with a stylus, and it’s possible that the leaked images simply don’t show it or depict a different LG phone.
We still don’t know the internals for the G4 Note, but Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 808 is bound to make an appearance. LG was one of the few Android providers that decided to go with the lower performance hexa-core Snapdragon 808 over the octa-core Snapdragon 810, to avoid overheating issues.
Launching a smartphone this late in the year might be a mistake for LG. The iPhone 6S Plus, Galaxy Note 5, Xperia Z5 Premium, and other notable phablets will already be on sale, meaning most consumers will already have their new smartphones by October.
LG might be able to pick up stragglers that haven’t chosen a phone for 2015, but most manufacturers launch devices before September to avoid the inevitable iPhone drought. The LG G4 was announced in April to avoid any iPhone announcements and compete heavily with the Galaxy S6.
