While you could be forgiven for forgetting about anything but Star Wars: Episode VII — The Force Awakens in the wake of its new trailer, Lucasfilm’s cash cow isn’t the only big-name franchise on the block.
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 2 is set to put a bow on the series on Nov. 20, and has released a couple of new TV spots in advance of that date.
Anyone who’s read Suzanne Collins’ books knows that the events of the upcoming film are chock-full of action, but if you haven’t read them, these two spots should help you get the picture. Massive armies, guns, blood, floods, fires, explosions — the stage is set for all-out war and for an epic conclusion to a journey that started back in 2012.
These two 30-second teasers both revolve around Katniss and how she has spurred a revolution, and shots of our heroine are interspersed with scenes from the battle against the Capitol and the tyrannical President Snow. She has taken her place at the head of the districts’ army and all that’s left to do now is finish the fight.
Undeniable drama aside, something does feel a little bit off about these spots. Maybe it’s that this story was stretched into four movies instead of three, but it is starting to feel odd to see Lawrence at the helm of a franchise that was adapted from young adult novels. With films like American Hustle, Silver Linings Playbook, and the upcoming Joy, Lawrence has established herself as one of Hollywood’s most serious and prolific actresses and — while we hate to say it — this film feels a tad junior for her at this point.
Either way, it’s hard not to be excited, and those who like fast-paced, action-packed cinema should come away from this one more than satisfied.
