The new Deadpool trailer brings more mutants, mayhem, and (of course) jokes

Just when you thought Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool couldn’t break the superhero movie mold any more than it already has, another set of trailers make it clear that the mouthy mercenary’s irreverent solo debut is just getting started.

20th Century Fox released a pair of new trailers for Deadpool over the Christmas weekend featuring both green- and red-band previews of the upcoming film that casts Reynolds as the foul-mouthed, ultraviolent antihero — and given what we see in the trailers, it seems pretty safe to say that we’ve never seen a superheromovie quite like Deadpool.

Directed by VFX expert Tim Miller from a script penned by Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, Deadpool chronicles the origin story of the popular Marvel Comics antihero created by Rob Liefeld and Fabian Nicieza. A former Special Forces operative who agrees to an experimental procedure after being diagnosed with terminal illness, Wade Wilson (Reynolds) ends up with wildly accelerated healing powers. Calling himself “Deadpool,” he embarks on a mission to rescue the woman he loves and hunt down the agents of the mysterious organization that almost killed him.

Along with Reynolds, the film stars Brianna Hildebrand as the mutant Negasonic Teenage Warhead and Stefan Kapicic as the steel-skinned X-Men mutant Colossus, who are both seen in action in the new trailers. The film also stars actor/comedian T.J. Miller as Weasel, fighter-turned-actress Gina Carano as the powerful mutant Angel Dust, Morena Baccarin as Copycat, and Ed Skrein as Ajax.

X-Men franchise star Hugh Jackman is also rumored to have a role in the film, but his appearance as Wolverine has yet to be confirmed.

Deadpool is rated R, and scheduled to hit theaters February 12, 2016.

You can watch the red-band trailer for Deadpool below, but be warned: It features quite a bit of NSFW language and violence.
