You see, the app is pretty basic compared to the iPhone version, letting funders – or potential funders – do little more than search the site’s database of weird and wonderful projects, as well as track those they’ve already backed.
No, unlike its iOS counterpart, there’s nothing here for creators, so in other words, no opportunity to add content like updates to a project page.
More functionality is expected somewhere down the road, though hopefully we won’t have to wait three years for it. Promisingly, Kickstarter’s Brooklyn-based team says in a post introducing the app that it’s “just” version 1.0, telling fans to “stay tuned for more features — like tools allowing creators to manage their projects.”
The company explains that with this initial version it wanted to create a “great discovery experience for backers [that makes it] easy to dive into thousands of live creative projects from every corner of the Kickstarter universe.” In that respect, it’s hit the mark.
Project searches can be refined via categories, making it easier to hunt down the kind of campaigns that interest you most. Tracking is offered via the app’s Activity Feed, which shows the latest updates from creators you’ve supported, and also spotlights campaigns your buddies have recently backed. Kickstarter describes the feed as “a play-by-play of all the news that should be on your radar.”
