Love TV? You’ll love Verizon’s upgraded Fios Custom TV packages

It ain’t easy to disrupt the television space, but Verizon thinks it just may have made a breakthrough with its newest version of Fios Custom TV. On Friday, the telecommunications company announced the next generation of the offering it originally brought to market last year, which promises to “give customers the flexibility and choice to only pay for the types of channels they want and not the ones they don’t.”

With the updated version of Custom TV from Verizon, customers can choose between two brand new plans. There’s the Essentials plan, which boasts most of the most viewed content available in the Lifestyle, Entertainment, Pop Culture, Kids, and News verticals of television. So if you’re a sucker for the Discovery Channel but your significant other is more of a History channel lover, and the other moochers in your family want to watch Bravo or Fox News in their spare time, you still don’t have to worry — everyone’s covered.

Then, there’s the Sports & More package, which (true to its name), gives customers some of the hottest sports networks available nationally today. From NBCSN to Fox Sports 1 to ESPN, no matter what game is on, you’ll be able to watch it. You’ll also have access to all your regional sports networks, as well as “some of the most popular non-sports channels on TV.”

And if that’s not enough for you, customers of the new Custom TV plans can choose up to three more add-on packs for just $6 each, including the Movie Lovers Pack, Kids Teens & Family Pack, and the Global Sports Pack. Don’t worry — you’ll also still get the Fios TV Local package, so despite the fact that you’re getting all this broad coverage, you’ll know what’s going on at home, too.

“For many customers, less is more — they would rather pay less and get more of the content they are actually interested in,” said Tami Erwin, president of Verizon’s Consumer and Mass Business group. “The original Custom TV has proven very popular since we launched it last year, and we’ve incorporated our customers’ feedback to make the next generation of Custom TV even better with a simpler choice and a much wider variety of channels available.”

The new offering can be combined with Fios Digital Voice and Fios Internet starting at $70 per month.
