Here’s everything that happened at Apple’s March 21 event in 3 minutes

If you’re not on top of things it can be easy to fall behind on Apple news, especially when they sneak in smaller events like their most recent. The March 21st event introduced new iPhones, iPads and much more. Finally giving fans of the smaller iPhone 4 and 5 something to catch their devices up to speed, Apple CEO Tim Cook and company have just unveiled their new 4-inch iPhone SE among other new products and updates. Apple may do the unthinkable — allow third-party iPhone app stores

Ever since 2008, Apple has only allowed its own App Store on the iPhone. In the past, if you wanted alternative digital storefronts, you’d have to jailbreak your device. But in response to impending regulations from the European Union, Apple may be allowing alternative app stores on the iPhone and iPad in the near future — potentially as soon as iOS 17 in 2023.

According to a report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, this will be the very first time that Apple will allow third-party app stores on the iPhone. It seems that Apple is already dedicating a “significant amount of resources to the companywide endeavor.”

Apple has just released iOS 16.2 for iPhones, as well as watchOS 9.2 for compatible Apple Watch devices. iOS 16.2 has been in the beta testing stages for a few months, and it is now finally available for everyone. This is a relatively big point update, bringing with it several new features.

In iOS 16.2, we have the newly announced Advanced Data Protection. With Advanced Data Protection, end-to-end encryption has been expanded to many more iCloud data categories. This includes Messages backups, photos, notes, reminders, voice memos, and more points of data. Advanced Data Protection is currently only limited to those who are in the U.S., with a worldwide rollout starting in early 2023.

Apple’s making a big change to the iPhone 14 Pro’s controversial always-on display

The iPhone 14 Pro's always-on display shouldn't always have to stay on. Thankfully, the latest iOS 16.2 beta test is allowing users to hide their wallpapers and notifications from the controversial feature.

According to a report from 9to5Mac, iOS 16.2 beta 3 is giving iPhone 14 Pro users the option to toggle off the wallpaper and notifications from the always-on display, following reviews complaining about the feature needlessly draining the phone's battery life. Although the always-on display dims the wallpaper by default, Apple implemented changes to address the issue.
