The summer heat is almost here and Sprint is kicking things off with a hot deal on the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus.

Starting Friday, current Sprint customers who buy an iPhone 6S or 6S Plus can get one free. Current customers do need one line that’s eligible for an upgrade and will also need to add one new line of service. New customers will obviously need to add two lines of service.

This deal works whether you purchase or lease the phones. You can even purchase one of them and lease the other if you wish. For even more flexibility, both phones can be either the iPhone 6S or the 6S Plus, or you can select one of each.

You can purchase the iPhone 6S 16GB for $0 down and 24 monthly installments of $27.09. The second iPhone 6S will be free after Sprint gives you a $27.09 monthly credit. Or you can purchase the iPhone 6S Plus 16GB for $0 down and 24 monthly installments of $31.25. Again, Sprint will give you a credit of $31.25 per month to make the second phone free. If you choose two different models, the one with the lower monthly cost will get the monthly credit.

If you opt for a lease instead, it’ll cost $26.39 a month for 18 months for the iPhone 6S 16GB and $31 per month for 18 months for the 6S Plus 16GB. The advantage to leasing is that the cost is much lower since it’s only for 18 months and you can upgrade anytime after 12 months. However, once you make all 18 payments, you have to turn in your phone since you don’t own it — or you can opt to purchase it.

Sprint does offer you the ability to return your phones after 30 days if you’re not happy. Plus, if you’re a new customer, you can save up to 50 percent off your current bill. That deal was supposed to end in February, but it keeps chugging along.

In addition to the BOGO for the iPhone, Sprint will also knock off $200 on the latest iPads when you purchase or lease the iPhone 6S or 6S Plus. You can choose from the iPad Mini 4, iPad Air 2, iPad Pro 9.7, or iPad Pro 12.9 in any memory configuration. The credit is spread out over 24 months, so the cost of the iPad Air 2 16GB or iPad Mini 4 16GB would be only $13.75 per month instead of $22.09 per month. The iPad Pro 9.7 32GB would be only $22.08 per month instead of $30.42, and the iPad Pro 12.9 would be only $28.33 per month as opposed to $36.67.

Sprint didn’t specify when either of these deals will end, but it did say that they are limited time offers.

I’m so glad I didn’t ignore the iPhone 16’s Camera Control
The OuttaFocus column header image, with the iPhone 16 Plus Camera Control.

Before I used the iPhone 16, I was conflicted about the Camera Control. At first, I thought it just added a fun physical element to the camera, but when I remembered the years of muscle memory involved with taking photos with the iPhone using the touchscreen, I questioned whether it would be worth the effort to retrain myself to use it.

Now, after having forced myself to press the Camera Control on the iPhone 16 Plus, I’m here to tell you to do the same, as it does a whole lot more than just snap photos.

The iPhone 16 Camera Control is fun, but it could be better
Using the Camera Control on the iPhone 16 Pro.

Now that the year is starting to wind down, all the major flagship smartphone launches of 2024, including Apple’s iPhone 16 line, are behind us.

As an iPhone user for over the past decade, I found the iPhone 16 launch exciting, as Apple finally gave us some of the best darn colors for the base model in quite some time. And don’t forget that the base models also got quite a few features previously exclusive to the Pro models, like the Action button, a two-year jump in power with the A18, and the new Camera Control button that's on all iPhone 16 variations.

Which iPhone 16 has the best battery life? This test found out
iPhone 16 Pro Max in Desert Titanium.

The iPhone 16 series has been on the market for about 10 days. Third parties have been conducting tests, including benchmarks, on the phones during this time. Recently, Tom’s Guide published its list of the best smartphones in terms of battery life, and it’s no surprise that two of the new iPhone models made the list.

According to the report, the Asus ROG Phone 8 Pro tops the list and offers a fantastic 18 hours and 48 minutes of battery life between charges. This was followed by the OnePlus 12R, which had 18 hours and 42 minutes. The iPhone 16 Pro Max took the third position, with 18 hours and six minutes between charges.
