The 2016 UEFA European Championship (Euro 2016) is under way, and to help soccer fans (or football, depending on your locale) around the world get their fill of one of the most universally beloved sports, Copa90 has created a Facebook Messenger chatbot to serve as the ultimate the Euro 2016 guide for sports fanatics. Designed to make accessing key information and news as seamless as possible, this new project represents the first ever chatbot put forth by the sports site, and features content not only from Copa Collective members, but also editorials and news from a variety of leading European soccer magazines.

To utilize the bot’s functionality, users simply have to log onto their Facebook accounts, where they’ll be greeted every morning with information and news about any action they might have missed from the day or days past. “A generation is growing up wanting satisfaction on demand,” said James Kirkham, head of Copa90. “We’re ensuring that we can be the perfect football accompaniment to this behavior, providing key content as and when our audience need it.”

Just think of this bot as your most tuned-in, free time-laden friend, constantly in the know about the latest scores, matchups, and drama in one of soccer’s biggest tournaments.

And while this bot system may be a first for Copa90, the site says it’s not the last. “Messaging is the biggest thing happening in communications media right now,” Kirkham added. “This is the start of something much bigger for us. We’re going to learn quickly whilst delivering what we think is a quite brilliant range of content for the discerning fan.”

So if you’re unable to watch all the games at once (because, you know, you have a job and aren’t actually capable of splitting your attention 10 different ways), let the Copa90 Facebook Messenger bot do the heavy lifting for you. It may just be the best friend you have on Facebook.

Twitter CEO Linda Yaccarino tweeted on Monday that despite the current fuss over Meta’s new and very similar Threads app, Twitter had its largest usage day last week.

Subtly including the name of Meta’s new app, which launched to great fanfare last Wednesday, Yaccarino did her best to sing Twitter’s praises, tweeting: “Don’t want to leave you hanging by a thread … but Twitter, you really outdid yourselves! Last week we had our largest usage day since February. There’s only ONE Twitter. You know it. I know it.”

The pandemic was supposed to have made us all comfortable with video calls, but many folks still don’t particularly enjoy the process.

Having to think about what to wear, or how our hair looks, or even fretting about puffy eyes following another bout of hay fever can sometimes be a bit much, even more so if it’s an early-morning call and your brain is still in bed.
