The upcoming release on PlayStation 4 and PC follows up on months of development setbacks, as promised Street Fighter V patches for May and June of this year never surfaced. All content planned for release in recent months will finally see the light of day as part of July’s update.
After installing July’s Street Fighter V update, players will be able to unlock and play as Ibuki, a returning character from Super Street Fighter IV. Ibuki was initially slated for release in May before a last-minute delay pushed her debut back to July.
Boxer character Balrog will also join Street Fighter V roster with July’s update. Originally a boss character in 1991’s Street Fighter II, Balrog has since made appearances in multiple Street Fighter sequels and spinoffs, and his unique playstyle makes him a favorite among expert players.
“[Balrog’s] playstyle in Street Fighter V puts the focus on his devastating punches,” Capcom explains, “and with the use of his V-Trigger, he can chain these attacks together to deal serious damage.”
Despite their latst-minute debuts, both Ibuki and Balrog will be legal for tournament play at the upcoming Evo 2016 Championship Series. Players will only have two weeks to master Street Fighter V‘s latest roster additions before Evo 2016 kicks off on July 15.
In addition to a roster expansion, Street Fighter V‘s upcoming patch will also deliver a Cinematic Story Mode, a campaign that promises multiple hours of single-player gameplay bridged by narrative sequences. Other additions planned for Street Fighter V‘s next patch include new playable stages and Battle Costumes unlockable via an in-game store.
Street Fighter V‘s comprehensive patch and update will launch digitally on July 1.
