Ford has released a new video of the car to celebrate its European debut, but it’s no standard promo clip. Filmed in crystal clear 4K, the interactive, multiperspective film allows you to pan around the cabin as the pony car speeds around the Silverstone racetrack, giving you a unique 360-degree view of the action.
It goes further than that though, because thanks to a drone, you can switch to a top-down helicopter view of the lap, showcasing pro driver Paul Swift’s skills as he uses every inch of the Mustang’s 5.0-liter “Coyote” V8. There’s a front-facing perspective as well, and Ford says six GoPros, the aforementioned drone, and bumper-mounted cameras were necessary to compile the footage. “This video is a lot of fun, it makes you feel like you’re behind the wheel of a Mustang,” said Tom Barnes, Mustang vehicle engineering manager. “You have complete control of your view as if you’re actually driving on the track.”
The 2015 model year marks the first time the Mustang has been available for purchase in Europe outside of private company imports. Available as a fastback or convertible, buyers can choose between the 2.3-liter EcoBoost and 5.0-liter V8, which produce 310 horsepower/320 pound-feet of torque and 412 hp/386 lb-ft respectively. If you have your heart on a V6, we have bad news — the 300-hp powerplant isn’t making the trip across the pond.
When the car first became available to order abroad last year, the first batch of 500 units sold out in about 30 seconds.
