Known globally for its love-it-or-hate-it designs, German tuner Mansory has unveiled a heavily-modified version of the Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG Coupe called Diamond Edition.
The most impressive changes are found by popping the hood. The S63’s hand-built, twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter V8 engine has been torn down completely and rebuilt with stronger connecting rods, new bearings, an upgraded crankshaft and considerably bigger turbos. Bolted to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, the eight-cylinder now makes 985 horsepower, while its torque output is electronically limited to an astronomical 1,032 foot-pounds.
To put those figures into perspective, the S63 AMG Coupe sprints off out of the factory with 577 horsepower and 664 foot-pounds of torque under the hood. The generous amount of extra grunt rockets Mansory’s S63 from 0 to 62 mph in just 3.2 seconds – 0.1 faster than a Porsche 911 GT3 RS – and on to a top speed of 186 mph. It could probably go a lot higher but it is fitted with an electronic speed limiter for the sake of safety.
Outside, the Diamond Edition features a deep front bumper with three large air vents, a pair of motorsport-inspired NACA ducts on the hood, flared fenders made out of carbon fiber, side skirts and a large air diffuser built into the rear bumper. Mansory emblems in lieu of Mercedes’ traditional three-pointed star and 22-inch alloy wheels round out the visual modifications.
The cockpit gains aluminum pedals, a Mansory-specific steering wheel and wall-to-wall hand-stitched leather upholstery. It goes without saying that buyers with extra change in their pocket are given the opportunity to customize nearly every aspect of the coupe’s interior including the materials used and the colors.
Mansory has not announced how much it costs to turn a Mercedes S63 AMG Coupe into a 985-horsepower beast capable of beating a top-spec 911 in a straight line. However, considering the base S63 Coupe starts at over $160,000, we’re willing to bet the Diamond Edition is priced at well over $200,000.
