Power for the yet-unnamed wagon will come from a stock, RS 6-sourced twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter TFSI V8 engine tuned to churn out 560 horsepower from 5,700 to 6,600 rpm and 516 pound-feet of torque over a broad range that stretches from 1,750 to 5,500 rpm. Bolted to an eight-speed automatic transmission, the eight-cylinder will send the Allroad on steroids from zero to 60 mph in roughly four seconds and on to a top speed of 155 mph.
Audi’s next super-wagon was allegedly approved for production solely because it can be built using existing components, meaning it will borrow bits and pieces from both the RS 6 (pictured) and the Allroad. On one hand, it will feature a deep front bumper with a pair of large air dams, it will ride on massive alloy wheels, and it will gain a wide air diffuser out back. On the other hand, expect the station wagon to wear rugged-looking protective black trim over the wheel arches, and offer a noticeably raised ground clearance.
German magazine Auto Bild believes the RS 6 Allroad is being designed primarily with the Chinese market in mind, but it will also be distributed in Europe and in a host of other markets including Russia if it’s approved for production. However, it’s unlikely to touch down in the United States because the wagon segment is tiny at best and the regular RS 6 has never been sold here.
If the report is accurate, Audi’s first-ever RS-branded Allroad model will make its debut at a major auto show late next year. It will be the current-generation A6’s swan song, and a brand new model is expected to debut in the spring of 2017.
