Ford’s aluminum-bodied 2017 Super Duty leaks out ahead of schedule

2017 ford super duty leaked f250 spied 1

A low-quality amateur spy shot seemingly snapped during a presentation has fully revealed the all-new 2017 Ford Super Duty well ahead of its scheduled debut.

The F-250 depicted in the leaked image features a bold-looking front end with a massive radiator grille that does without the current model’s chromed frame, vertical headlights and a chromed bumper. The bigger F-350 and F-450 variants will look very similar to the 250, though each one will be characterized by a handful of model-specific bits and pieces.

Like the 2015 F-150, the new Super Duty will weigh a lot less than its predecessor thanks to a body made entirely out of military-grade aluminum. Switching from steel to aluminum will also help Ford benefit from economies of scale, a process that will ultimately bring down the cost of the lightweight material.

Although technical details are not available, WorldCarFans speculates that the pickup will carry on with the current model’s 6.2-liter gasoline-burning V8 and 6.7-liter Power Stroke turbodiesel. However, both units will be thoroughly upgraded in order to return better gas mileage and allow the Super Duty to tow even more.

Industry rumors indicate that Ford will introduce the 2017 Super Duty early next month at the New York Motor Show. If the rumors turn out to be true, expect to learn more about the Blue Oval’s next pickup over the coming weeks.
