An extremely ambitious California-based startup has announced plans to launch a 2,000-horsepower coupe in the near future. We hear claims like this one on a regular basis and they rarely materialize, but Trion stresses the upcoming Nemesis is the real thing.
According to Trion, the Nemesis will be powered by a twin-turbocharged V8 engine that will allow it to reach 60 mph from a stop in 2.8 seconds and go on to a top speed of over 290 mph. Admittedly, 2.8 seconds doesn’t seem very fast for a car that has 2,000 horsepower. To put that figure into perspective, the Lamborghini Aventador Superveloce logs roughly the same time with 750 ponies on tap.
The eight-cylinder’s provenance is a mystery. Trion says that power is transferred to all four wheels via an eight-speed sequential transmission, but it’s important to note that a fully functional prototype hasn’t been built yet. All of these technical details are purely hypothetical at this point.
The company is planning on introducing at least three different versions of the Nemesis, starting with a limited-edition model that will cost a jaw-dropping $2.2 million. That’s a lofty sum, but in exchange, buyers will allegedly be awarded a share of the company, as well.
The standard Nemesis will go on sale once the limited-edition model is sold out. It will cost about $1.6 million, but it won’t come with Trion stock. Finally, a 1,400-horsepower convertible model will slot in at the bottom of the lineup, though how much it will cost is up in the air.
Only time will tell if Trion can keep its promise. So far, a time frame for when we can expect to see the production version of the Nemesis has not been given, and it’s too early to give an accurate estimate of how much it will cost when it goes on sale.
