Aston Martin to debut Vulcan hypercar at 2015 Geneva Motor Show

It’s going to be a big week for Aston Martin at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show.

On January 6th, the brand teased the Vantage GT3, a street-legal variant of the V12 Vantage GT3 race car. The short film was a slew of quick cuts of the current GT competitor, which is powered by a 5.9-liter dry sump V12 that produces over 600 horsepower. We can only imagine what greatness that will come with a road-going version, but Geneva is almost upon us.

Today, the British brand released another bit of automotive foreplay for a new model called the Vulcan.

This time, there’s even less to go on. The are no photos or specifications shown in the video’s 22 seconds, just an orchestra of lightening quick sequential shifts and perhaps even a bit of gearbox whine.

However, industry rumblings indicate that the Vulcan will be a track-only hypercar akin to the McLaren P1 GTR or LaFerrari FXX K, which makes the teaser’s racing-inspired soundtrack make even more sense.

Some are even saying the car could surpass the performance of the stunning One-77 supercar, which featured a 750-hp, 7.3-liter V12 and a top speed of 220 mph. The Vulcan will likely be produced in vary small numbers, and is said to be the brand’s most extreme model outside of professional racing.

So sorry, Star Trek fans: this hypercar probably didn’t get its name from your favorite pointy-eared logical science officer. In Roman mythology, Vulcan means god of fire, as well as god of metalworking and the forge.

Put that into context with Aston Martin’s traditional embrace of analog, and I wouldn’t expect any futuristic hybrid tech here. Just a huge engine, rigid chassis, and drop-dead gorgeous looks. What more could you want?
