The Top Gear moniker will remain, however, as the BBC is reportedly in talks with a new ‘dream team’ trio of hosts.
As the show continues its awkward and abrupt transition, there are a few loose ends to be tied up. Mainly, the previously filmed, unreleased portions of Season 22 that were left dangling in the wake of Clarkson’s dismissal.
Well, good news! The BBC has released a trailer for a new Top Gear special, one comprised of the very same leftover footage. In the 30-second teaser, you can see Jezza, Hamster, and Captain Slow engaging in their trademark colorful banter, before tearing up the countryside in a Vauxhall Frontera, a Jeep Cherokee, and a Mitsubishi Shogun Pinin as part of a unique challenge. Each of the 4x4s were purchased for just £250 ($385).
There’s no official air date for the special at this time, but it’s likely to be the trio’s last appearance under the official Top Gear banner. The team is reportedly in talk with Netflix to host a Top Gear-esque series called ‘House of Cars,’ but the rumors are unconfirmed for now.
Until then, you can see the boys in person on the ‘Clarkson, Hammond, and May Live’ tour, which currently has stops scheduled all around Europe.
The event’s YouTube channel has posted several promotional clips for the show, including one depicting the destruction of James May’s unlucky piano, and another featuring a tip over of the incredibly well-balanced Reliant Robin.
