Beware the ‘Green Monster’: Mercedes hints at a hardcore version of the G63 AMG 6×6

A ‘Green Monster’ is coming from Germany.

But don’t worry: it’s not a ferocious mutated lizard, or even a radioactive giant wearing lederhosen; it’s just the pet name for a new Mercedes SUV that may be hitting production soon.

Tobias Moers, CEO of Mercedes-AMG, was recently asked by Australian news site Car Advice if the Stuttgart-based brand would make a hardcore four-wheeled version of the G63 AMG 6×6, and he responded with brevity fit for a meme.

“Soon.”

As you can see, a retooled version of the standard G63 AMG has been spotted testing recently, and it looks to have borrowed many of the apocalypse-approved features from its intense six-wheeled cousin. It also wears obscuring camo over the bodywork and a lime green top half, hence the spooky moniker.

Those enhancements include widened fenders and raised suspension, with all-terrain rims and tires to match. The exact ground clearance measurement is unknown at this time, but the 6×6 version boasts 18.11 inches of room between ground and bodywork.

Powertrain specifications are still under lock and key as well, but the 6×6 relative equipped Mercedes’ stout 5.5-liter biturbo V8 that produces 537 horsepower. The ‘Green Monster’ will likely fit the same powertrain, but a naturally aspirated V8 with 323 hp is available as well.

It wouldn’t be a G-Wagen without ridiculous levels of comfort, and the six-wheeled G63 AMG proves that with designo leather and Alcantara upholstery, heated and ventilated individual seats, and a digital TV.

There are surely a lot of G63 AMG iterations out there in 2014, and if you fancy, there’s even a bulletproof version. Inkas’ armored G-Wagen can withstand sustained automatic weapons fire, features overlapping bullet catchers, and can even take the blast from two DM51 grenades.
