The successor to the ever-mighty Bugatti Veyron is on the way, and it will reportedly use a hybrid powertrain with enough grunt to reverse the rotation of the Earth. Before the highly anticipated supercar touches down, however, Bugatti will leave a trail of digital clues as to what the car will look like.
One such clue is the brand’s Vision Gran Turismo Concept, a vehicle destined for the virtual roads of Gran Turismo 6. While the car won’t be unveiled in full until the Frankfurt Motor Show next month, the brand has released a teaser image that, according to the automaker, “gives an outlook of the brand’s new design language.”
Admittedly, it’s not much to go on. The photo shows little more than the basic proportions of a vehicle that will almost certainly never see real tarmac, but certain elements of the finished product could show up in the Veyron’s follow-up, the Chiron. Outside of that, Bugatti’s appearance in a video game gives the elite carmaker a way to interact with its fans, the majority of which can never hope to own one.
“Bugatti is the world’s most exclusive super sports car brand and Bugatti cars are only available to an extremely small group of automobile connoisseurs,” says Wolfgang Dürheimer, the company’s president. “At the same time Bugatti is admired and loved by countless people throughout the world. We highly appreciate this enthusiasm. The Bugatti Vision Gran Turismo will make our brand available to them as well as to gamers and high-performance aficionados throughout the world, only very few of whom will be able to afford a real Bugatti. They can all benefit from the success of our brand. This is a project for our fans.”
As for the Chiron, the most recent reports have pegged the supercar’s output at a ridiculous 1,500 horsepower, likely the result of a marriage between an 8.0-liter, quad-turbo W16 and an array of electric motors. The vehicle should be ungodly fast, but for car lovers, it can’t come fast enough.
