It’s a good time to be a Dodge fan.
Dodge was recently re-branded as the performance arm of Chrysler earlier this year, and we’re beginning to see the results of the American company’s rebirth.
The hellacious, 600-plus-horsepower Challenger SRT Hellcat hits showrooms this fall, there’s a new Viper on the way, and Dodge has released details of a new Charger in Hellcat guise.
According to Motor Authority, the 2015 Charger SRT Hellcat may share its engine with the two-door Challenger: a monstrous, supercharged 6.2-liter V8 churning out over 600 ponies.
Other high-powered ruffians like the new Corvette, Shelby GT500 Mustang, and the Viper boast more power, but with four doors, the Charger SRT Hellcat could be the fastest sedan to ever come from the United States.
Hell, it might be the fastest sedan ever produced, period. The projected 600-plus hp output trumps the Aston Martin Rapide (550 hp), the Cadillac CTS-V (556 hp), the BMW M5 (560 hp), and the Porsche Panamera Turbo S (570hp). The new Hellcat may even top the Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG’s earthquake-inducing 621 hp, however “more than 600 horsepower” is the best we’ve got from Dodge thus far; official power numbers have yet to be released.
We’re hoping the Challenger’s supercharged V8 ends up in the Charger SRT, but its possible Dodge will take some steam off it to keep the Challenger and Viper on top of the model range.
A 6.4-liter, “392” Hemi V8 may also be an option for the Charger Hellcat, which will be featured in the standard, non-Hellcat version of the Challenger. Sure, we’d miss the supercharger, but 485 hp and 475 pound-feet of torque ain’t anything to shake a stick at.
The 2015 Charger is currently slated to have either a 300-hp, 3.6-liter V6 or a 370-hp, 5.7-liter V8. Stay tuned for more details and confirmed power output on Dodge’s new Hellcat models.
