The funky Three-Wheeler (pictured) has been an unexpected hit for England’s Morgan Motors. Initially introduced as a low-volume model designed to commemorate the company’s 100th birthday, the Three-Wheeler has gradually become the British company’s best-seller.
To continue building on that success, Morgan is reportedly considering introducing a new variant of the Three-Wheeler powered by an electric drivetrain. If built, the battery-powered Three-Wheeler would be the first regular-production Morgan in the company’s illustrious 104-year history.
While Morgan has not published technical details, the Three-Wheeler is a good candidate to receive an electric drivetrain because of its pint-sized dimensions and feather-light weight. The gas-powered Three-Wheeler tips the scale at just 1,212 pounds.

Morgan has not revealed when it will decide whether or not to build the electric Three-Wheeler. If launched, the car will be sold in a handful of markets across Europe but it will likely not make its way to the United States.
Morgan has never built an electric vehicle but it briefly toyed around with the idea when it presented the Plus E Concept at the 2012 edition of the Geneva Motor Show. Based on the Plus 8, the Plus E was fitted with an electric motor that sent 160 horsepower and 280 lb-ft. of torque to the rear wheels via a five-speed manual transmission. A lithium-ion battery pack provided the electric roadster with a maximum driving range of about 160 miles.
