The car pictured above is the infamous Aston Martin DBR1 racecar that won the 1959 Nürburgring 1000km race and was piloted by the iconic Stirling Moss. It’s this legendary race that will inspire the CC100.
Aston Martin will only build two of the roofless, doorless race cars based upon the V12 Vantage to commemorate both its centennial and Moss’ historic Nürburgring win.
No performance numbers are yet known for the CC100s, but they’re likely to put out a bit more than the stock 510 horsepower from the production V12 Vantage.
Though Aston is only building two, Aston CEO, Ulrich Bez, has estimated the CC100 to run in the range of the $500,000 V12 Zagato and the $2.1-millon One-77. That’s a hefty price to pay for a car you’d have to jump into and out of every time you wanted to go for a drive.
Aston will unveil the CC100 at this year’s 24-hour Nürburgring race. Moss will be there to make a few laps in the DBR1 with Bez hot on his heels in the CC100.
Autocar is also reporting that Aston will take the plunge into the hydrogen fuel cell world with a hydrogen-powered Rapide producing 500 horsepower. Just like Audi with its future diesel-powered plug-in hybrid supercar, Aston hopes high-concept car can bolster the fledgling powerplant technology. When speaking to Autocar at the Geneva Auto Show, Bez said, “I believe this hydrogen hybrid technology is the way to zero emissions in 20, 30, or 40 years’ time.”
As soon as we get performance specs and pictures of the CC100s we’ll be sure to bring them to you so check back soon.
