The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray’s styling has attracted a lot of ire, but it’s hard to argue with a 6.2-liter V8 and 450 horsepower. Or is it? Hennessey Performance Engineering, the same outfit that brought you the insane Venom GT, is working on a tuned ‘Vette with 1,000 horses.
Hennessey is in the business of boosting power outputs in everything from McLaren MP4-12Cs to Cadillac CTS-Vs, so it shouldn’t have any trouble working its magic on the all-new seventh-generation Corvette.
The Texas tuner will offer its modifications in stages, tailored to fit different levels of insanity. A supercharger kit will give the Stingray 700 hp, while a twin-turbocharged version will be good for either 800 hp, or the aforementioned 1,000.
Buyers looking to upgrade their Stingrays will also be able to choose from a full line of parts, including cold air intakes, cat-back exhaust systems, Brembo brakes, and suspension pieces.
Details and pricing will be announced in the coming months, but the Hennessey option might be the perfect substitute for people who want a new Corvette, but can’t wait for the redesigned Z06 and ZR1 performance models.
Obviously, Chevy will wait a bit before unleashing those monsters, but they will probably come with major power increases in the vein of the previous C6 Z06 and ZR1, which have 505 hp and 638 hp, respectively.
The Hennessey Corvette will also make an interesting counterpart to the 1000 hp Shelby 1000 S/C Mustang, taking the Ford versus Chevy rivalry to a whole new level.
