Mercedes showed us the back of this racing version of its new AMG GT last week, and now we’re getting a look at the other end.
The car’s lower and wider stance is immediately apparent. Complementing the huge rear wing are a front splitter and dive planes, and there’s a new grille that seems to recall the Mille Miglia-winning 300 SLR racer of the 1950s.
Behind that grille, the GT3 will probably get a fortified version of the 4.0-liter, twin-turbocharged V8 found in the stock AMG GT.
Other racing modifications will include upgraded suspension, brakes, and tires, and a stripped-out interior with all of the necessary safety equipment.
As the replacement for the SLS AMG GT3, the latest Mercedes racer will face a resurgent European GT3 class, including everything from racing versions of the Cadillac ATS-V to the Lamborghini Húracan.
The AMG GT3 could also race in the U.S. Like the SLS AMG GT3, Mercedes will likely offer cars for sale to privateer teams.
Mercedes also offered the SLS AMG GT3 to individual customers as a Ferrari FXX-baiting track car. Maybe lightning will strike twice with the AMG GT3.
