This tuner is ready to give Bentley’s luxed-up Bentayga a mullet

Bentley Bentayga 6x6
The 6×6 pickup truck has emerged as the mullet of the automotive world — business in the front, party in the back. The Mercedes-Benz G-Class, the Toyota Hilux, and even the Ford F-150 Raptor have adopted the six-wheeler style in recent years. Now, it’s the Bentley Bentayga‘s turn to head on down to the barber shop for a new look.

A California-based company named Newport Convertible Engineering is getting ready to give the Bentayga a mullet. Awkwardly Photoshopped images published on the company’s official website suggest the model will follow the same basic formula as the G-Class. It will ride much higher than a stock Bentayga thanks to extensive suspension modifications and massive off-road tires, and it will receive a roll bar for the newly created cargo compartment.

We don’t know whether Bentley thinks Newport’s creation is cool, or if it makes the company feel a little bit queasy. Similarly, what the Bentley of monster trucks is powered by is up in the air. The stock model uses a mighty 6.0-liter W12 engine that pumps out 600 horsepower at 664 pound-feet of torque. If you’re not impressed by those figures, grok this: the Bentayga scurries to 60 mph in a scant 3.5 seconds.

The weight added by the third axle and the additional square feet of sheet metal certainly won’t help make the Bentayga quicker, and they won’t make its ride any smoother. But hey, we’re not judging.

Make no mistake: transforming a luxury SUV into a lifted pickup truck is a tricky business. Newport Convertible Engineering has been making buyers’ wildest dreams come true since 1983, so it has the skills to pull off the conversion. Its recent creations include convertible variants of the Tesla Model S and the Land Rover Range Rover, and it even created the topless BRZ that Subaru flat-out refuses to build.

Stay tuned, we’ll be keeping a close eye on this project.

amazon prime planet on fire

Prime shipping has become a way of life for a lot of people in the U.S. since it launched 15 years ago. On the anniversary of Amazon Prime, which falls on Sunday, it's hard to imagine a world without free two-day shipping.

But it comes with a cost: Amazon puts out 44.4 million metric tons of carbon every year, about the same as the nations of Norway or Hong Kong, according to the Global Carbon Atlas.
