Nvidia GPUs Power 2010 Audi In-Dash Navigation and Entertainment System

audi-nvidia-gpuNvidia and Audi announced today that Nvidia GPUs power the navigation and entertainment systems in all of Audi 2010 vehicles. This great step for the auto industry—embedding cutting-edge GPUs and visual graphic capabilities—will further advance in-car driver assistance, entertainment and safety systems. NVIDIA worked with Audi to develop an elaborate multimedia engine called Vibrante that serves as the media backbone of 3G MMI. The Vibrante navigation and entertainment system in the new Audi 2010 product line uses Nvidia GPUs to generate all visual imagery on the display. The companies say the built-in navigation system features 3D topography of buildings and cities, real-time traffic reporting, iPod, SD card, USB memory stick support and audible navigation given as route-guidance prompts and turn arrows via the color driver information system.

“Visual computing has become key differentiator among luxury cars, whether it’s delivering the necessary information to the driver or offering state-of-the-art entertainment options to the passengers,” said Johan de Nysschen, president, Audi of America. “We partnered with NVIDIA because it is clearly the leader in this field.”

NVIDIA and Audi says they also worked with Google to enable Google Earth on next year’s 3G MMI systems powered by NVIDIA GPUs, beginning in the flagship Audi A8 in 2011.

Audi’s Q4 Sportback E-Tron will have customizable LED headlamps, 279-mile range
2020 Audi Q4 Sportback E-Tron concept

Audi's plan to launch more than 20 electric cars globally by 2025 is definitely ambitious, but it's also realistic, and the models that will help it achieve its goal are gradually coming to light. One is a close-to-production concept named the Q4 Sportback E-Tron that's closely related to the Q4 E-Tron introduced at the 2019 edition of the Geneva Auto Show.

Normally, I would have been able to enjoy an in-person look at the Q4 Sportback E-Tron during an auto show -- but shows in Geneva, Detroit, New York, and even Paris were canceled due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The unveiling took place online, which is the new norm, and Audi design boss Marc Lichte tuned in to digitally present the concept.

Audi’s updated Q5 receives extra power, better infotainment, and OLED lights
2021 Audi Q5

Audi is focusing on expanding its range of electric vehicles, but it's not forgetting about the gasoline-powered models in its portfolio. It updated the Q5, its best-selling vehicle in the United States, by giving it a new-look design that includes OLED rear lights, fitting a better infotainment system, and giving the entry-level model a power boost.

Up front, subtle visual changes distinguish the 2021 Q5 from the outgoing model. It wears a grille that's thinner and wider plus a new-look bumper. Stylists gave the rear end a nip-and-tuck, too, and some versions of the SQ5 receive OLED tail lights split into three six-segment tiles. OLED technology is normally associated with televisions, computer monitors, smartphone screens, and other digital devices, but offering it in a car makes sense.

Audi’s stylish E-Tron Sportback will teach its other EV new tricks
2020 audi e tron sportback electric car 2019 los angeles auto show

Audi will soon start delivering the fastback-like 2020 E-Tron Sportback it unveiled at the 2019 edition of the Los Angeles Auto Show. The company's second series-produced electric car will begin arriving in American showrooms during the summer of 2020. When it does, it will teach the E-Tron it's based on a couple of new tricks.

Pricing starts at $77,400 before a mandatory $995 destination charge (think of it as shipping and handling for cars) elbows its way into the equation. To add context, the E-Tron carries a base price of $74,800. Keep in mind eligible buyers can claim a one-time $7,500 tax credit from the federal government, and some motorists might have the option of requesting additional incentives from state and local officials. All in, the Sportback starts at about $70,000.
