The Lamborghini Urus SUV concept was unveiled at the Beijing auto show to the delight of many – and the horror of others. Like it or not, the Urus is going into production for 2017.
Lamborghini made the announcement at its 50th anniversary celebration last week at which it also unveiled the one-off Egoista.
Some speculated whether the polarizing Urus would ever see the production floor, as Europe is in the grips of an economic recession. In a show of true Lamborghini-style opulence and chauvinism, however, the performance SUV has been green-lit.
While the details of drivetrain aren’t officially known, Motor Authority reports the Urus could be powered by a twin-turbocharged V8 producing 600 horsepower. Interestingly, a plug-in hybrid variant could be in the pipeline as well.
The Urus will be built on the chassis shared by the next-generation Volkswagen Touareg, Audi Q7, Porsche Cayenne, and the rumored yet-unnamed Bentley SUV.
You’ll have to forgive us, but we really like the looks and concept of the Urus. To is, it’s like a Range Rover Evoque in superhero clothes. Although it’s certain to be ungodly expensive, it’ll probably go and sound like no other SUV on the planet. To this, we say, “let them eat cake!”
