The all-electric SUV is scheduled to commence its delivery process next month, but before that happens, Tesla has opened an online design studio specifically for buyers who’ve reserved the range-topping Signature Series model. The studio allows customers to configure their car with a variety of options, but it also gave us our first glimpse at the vehicle’s official specifications and price. The news was initially posted on the Tesla Motors Club forum.
There is currently one version available — a 90 kWh, 762-horsepower model with a 240-mile range, a 0 to 60 mph time of 3.8 seconds, dual-motor all-wheel drive, and a retail price of $132,000 before tax credits are factored in. To be clear, the Signature Series is not the base model, so the entry-level variant will be some $25,000 or so cheaper, but it still puts the starting price for the Model X at over $100,000.
While the SUV comes standard with “Falcon Wing” rear doors, an automatically retracting rear spoiler, maps and navigation, automatic emergency braking, and a rear accessory hitch, the configurator also detailed the various packages clients can tack on. The most notable of the lot is the $10,000 Ludicrous Speed Upgrade, which gives the car a 0 to 60 time of 3.2 seconds and a quarter-mile sprint of 11.7 seconds. Your work commute has never been faster.
There are several other options too, including a $1,000 Subzero Weather package that heats the steering wheel and each of the passenger seats, and a $750 Tow Package that can haul 5,000 pounds. According to the design studio, the Model X’s software actively monitors trailer sway and adjusts wheel braking as needed.
Additionally, the Signature Series adds the semi-autonomous Autopilot feature — which steers the car automatically under certain conditions — as well as Smart Air Suspension that can raise itself over bumps, a high-end sound system, and premium interior lighting. Put it all together and the top-of-the-line Model X will run you almost $145,000 before incentives.
